P90X Day 7

A day of rest. This has been an excellent day for sure. I’m pretty spent, but at the same time I feel pretty good. I spent time with the wife and kids and had some good food. I looked back on the past week and told myself, wow you made it through the first week. Nice work. My wife, who is also doing the P90x workout is cranking on all cylinders. She is getting up at 5:45am every morning to get her routines in and she is pretty excited as well. I’m really proud of her drive right now, knowing how hard her day is already. Two kids, a full time job, a husband; rock and roll sweetie.

We have not worked out together yet, but I’m sure at some point that will happen.

Chest and Back Week 2 here we come.

Keep it strong, Keep it Risickulous

P90X Day 6

You know that feeling when you get up after a big work out the day before, and you just don’t know if you can make it to the bathroom. Yea, that is what I was feeling this AM. It was a tough get out of bed morning, but soon after a couple of stretches I was ready to go. I was expecting it, and understood, if you don’t workout your muscles you are going to be sore. No questions asked, just get ready for the day.

I ate a pretty big breakfast this morning, high levels of protein to try and help the muscle repair time. By mid day I was ready for Kenpo X. I was excited to press play and so it began and then it stopped. I was having some serious issues with the DVD throughout the whole routine. I never really found a rhythm because of it. I will try and make a new copy seeing there are scratches on the DVD.

Although a strong workout, I will get into more detail next time, since I was a bit disappointed in the DVD issue. I’m glad it came at the end of the week however, since my body was taking a pounding and I needed some kind of break.

Speaking of breaks tomorrow is a day of rest or X stretch. No pounding. The key here is to keep eating right and get ready for the next day.

Keep it strong, Keep it Risickulous

P90X Day 5

Coming into the legs routine I was a bit nervous based on years of leg workout experience. I just don’t like working out my legs and I know how important it is to get your legs in shape. I have really skinny legs and I’m not sure what I can do to get them looking any better. I’m committed to doing the leg work outs to the fullest and will go the extra mile to get them rocking. I know over time I will see some results, so patience is another factor in my workouts.

The cool thing about this leg workout is the combination of another back workout. Just when you thought your back was getting a rest, you get kicked in the butt again. Alternating between Legs and back makes it a hell of a lot easier, not to give up. The leg exercises consist of a lot of variation in lunges, wall squats and calf raises.

This combo workout was followed by another Ab Ripper X routine, which involves using your legs, so I was blown up already. I was screaming again during this workout and it felt good when it was done.

After making it through this leg workout I’m looking forward to better results next week.

Keep it strong, Keep it Risickulous

P90X Day 4

Just when I woke up this morning, thinking this is some serious pounding I’m taking, Yoga X comes along. It sounds like relief, but it is more of a treat. I’m most definitely sore, but feel good at the same time. I also ordered the Recovery Formula today, they of course say is a must, so I will fill you in on that after I start drinking it. It takes a few days to get here so you’ll have to wait just like me.

I used to do Yoga 3 times a week over 7 years ago and only practiced a little bit, but it has been a good 4 years since I’ve done it. I know how good it is and what it can do for your body and mind. So when I saw Yoga in this routine, it made me think, wow, they really are covering a lot of different methods fitness. Yoga is a piece of mind which brings all these workouts together. It was fantastic, not to mention quite difficult, especially since I have not done any in many years. This was a true test and for any noobs out there, you may struggle for a while, but it will come.

Sun salutation after sun salutation. It is nuts. A great workout, with out the impact. The flow was nice and the experience level was advanced. I was sweating like crazy, but that was ok, that meant I was working hard.

I was impressed with Tony’s skill level and teaching level. A couple family members’ of mine are serious Yoga instructors and have a big following and I’ve learned from them what it takes to do that. It takes years of practice and teachings. It was a nice changeup and I look forward to Day Five.

Have a good one.

Keep it strong, Keep it Risickulous

P90X Day 3

I’m starting to learn that there is definitely a time commitment when it comes to these workouts. I just finished Day three and again I was blown away. This is a complete workout of the Shoulders, Biceps and Triceps. This thing turns your arms into spaghetti and there is no fork to pick them up with. Although this work out is an hour you always have to consider another 15 minutes for Ab Ripper X.

After a couple of pauses and a phone call that had to be taken, I ran about 85 minutes, which is much more than I would like, but no worries, since I know it is for good reason. Giving your health an extra 25 minutes is well worth it.

Keep pressing play is what they keep saying and I have to say that is the perfect tagline. Working out on the P90x DVD has been amazing so far and I’m looking forward to day four.

Have a good one.

Keep it strong, Keep it Risickulous

P90X Day 2

What the hell is plyometrics? This is the first thing I thought when I read the DVD jacket. I knew this was going to be a cardio routine, but was I in for a surprise. Wow, this thing rocks you. Even if your room is cold, you will break a major sweat. After watching and performing plyometrics it became official that I knew what it was.

A lot of power movements and constant flow keep your heart rate up and you working hard. The DVD provides you the whole routine and all you need is some water, a mat and a towel. A great day 2 for sure.

I was working a sweat even in the warm up and what it came down to was patience and making sure I kept breathing. Holding your breathe is the worst thing you can do. I didn’t press pause, but there were times I wish I did. I never really did a cardio routine on DVD or in a gym so this was a great way to get introduced.

Each exercise was different with the same thing in mind. Let your body work in an efficient way and gain strength at the same time. I was blown away at the end and I was more excited I didn’t need to follow it up with the Ab routine. Yikes.

This will definietly burn some calories.

Take care all and we’ll talk Day 3 tomorrow.

P90X Day 1

Here we are, and I just completed Day 1 of the p90x workout routine (Chest and Back) as well as the AB Ripper X which follows the one hour work out. Wow, am I wasted right now. I might have pushed a little too hard on Day one, but I felt that was the thing to do. I’m really excited. I’ve been eating well for a week and to kick off a workout like this is just awesome. Tony Horton knows that people want workout results and already I’m motivated. Fresh looking video and the time stamp below telling you where you are in the routine is fabulous. A nice touch for sure.

All I can say is we did a lot of different exercises and these were all killer moves with and exclamation point. I used to do maybe 3 sets of 6 pull-ups each, this has you doing six different back exercises two times each doing as many reps as you can. Sick or what I like to say is Risickulous. The flow is great though, after warm-ups you move right in alternating the chest then back and so on. It’s just a great routine that grows on you.

The chest exercises were just as hard and put a lot of emphasis on pushups. That makes it nice for someone that doesn’t have a lot of room or weights.

Following the chest and back I thought I was done, but forgot that after certain exercise you are supposed to work the Abs. I’m not going, to lie. I was screaming during some of these abs moves. These are not crunches; these are serious moves that make you work. I couldn’t even finish each exercise. Each one was made up of 25 or more reps. It was very painful, but I knew giving it my all was critical. Out of the 375 repetitions he says they do I maybe did 200 reps. This may sound weak, but wait until you try it. This is one area I need to work on. Especially since my Abs are weak, giving way to painful lower back.

I need to go eat and rest. Day 2 tomorrow.

After your workout area is setup and you have all the right equipment including the TV and DVD player. You are all set.

Here is what I have in my workout area
Pull-Up Bar and leg raise bar pictured here

The Day Before Day 1

This is a critical day because today is the day where I see where I’m out and what I can do. P90x gives you a fitness test before you start the full program. It shouldn’t be to hard, right? Well it is more of an emotional thing than anything, because unless you’ve done these tests before, you really don’t know where you stand.

Here are my results for the Fitness Test. I have know way of comparing it to anything, but come Day 90, I should see some improvement.

Body Fat – 21%

Resting Hear Rate – 54

Pull Ups – 6

Vertical Leap – 15

Push Ups – 54

Inches Past my toes Stretch – 1.5

In and Outs to failure – 41

Seated Wall Squat – 60 Seconds (Killer)

Arm Curls to Failure – 16 Reps – 30lbs

First Hear Rate Max – 108

Third Heart Rate – 74

Out of all these things, I really thought I had a much higher vertical leap. I plan to work on this since in the past I always put legs last in my workouts. My wall squat was pathetic and it hurt really bad. I’m pretty sure I will be able to do more pushups and curls after 90 days it is just a matter of how many. Test complete, so that is a good sign of progress and now I rest up and get ready for Day 1 which is Chest and Back. I’m ready to rock this thing. It’s time to go eat a snack of sting cheese or carrots and hummus.

Here are the Day One Pictures.

P90X Live Results

P90X – It’s Time

It’s time for me to get my health back in shape and to be honest, it’s time for me to get my health in the best shape it has ever been. So my dilemma was what should I do? Do I go to a gym where I pay so much a month only to go the first couple of weeks and then I start bailing, and waste money? Do I make up my own routine for the basement with weights and some cardio only to realize I’m not working hard enough? I really need something that would kick my butt and put me in a spot I’ve never been before. This is where I saw a p90x commercial or should I say infomercial. I had not seen it in over a year and here it was talking right to me. Good job marketing people.

I decided to do my research online and see the results from real people, not just the ones on TV. I start reading these amazing stories of strength building and weight loss and the motivation to keep you going. I was truly amazed how many people have either completed the 90 days or are working through them right now. This is when I said to myself, geez, if I can’t commit to something for 90 days I will not be in the best shape of my life. So, I decided to purchase the program and prove to myself that I can be much healthier in 90days.

This blog is a story of My P90x Results and the trials and tribulations that I’m going through during these 90 days. There will be pictures of proof, and some statistics taken of my results. I will share as much information as I can to show you that if I can do this program most of you can do it as well. I will include some of my nutritional habits and daily goals. This is going to kick my ass, but in a sense, I’m looking forward to it.

Here are some of the things I was doing up until Day 1. I would run my two dogs for about 1 mile 2-3 times a week and I would rotate several weight lifting exercises on those days. Push ups, pull ups, curls, and a few other obvious lifting techniques. After running the first few days I really started feeling good, but I knew this was not enough. This is when I knew I needed to take this to the next level. At this point, I was looking forward to my DVD’s to come and one day they showed up at my house. Fantastic.

The first thing I looked at was not the big DVD booklet holding 13 DVD’s; it was the huge nutritional plan guide. Oh boy, this might be harder than the workout. I knew I had to cut out the soda, bad Carbs, doughnuts, ice cream and all my favorites, but this had to be done. So for about a week I started eating much healthier cutting out almost every thing you shouldn’t eat. The one thing I missed most was that 3 Tablespoons of Half and Half or .50./.50 as I like to call it, in my coffee every morning. Skim milk does not cut the acidity in the coffee. This will take some time to get used to for sure. It had to be done.

So after a week, I planned out when Day 1 will occur. This was hard, because the workout requires a lot more time than I was used to giving. That day is August 31, 2009, otherwise known as D-Day. I’m excited and nervous, thinking what if I can’t do these exercises and routines. All I can say is do my best and results will come. As long as I keep it fun, the motivation will not be a factor, but we shall see what I’m made of.

I’m look forward to this test and I plan to give 100%. 90 Days, no big deal Right?

DAY 1 – Bring It Baby.
